Dr. Fletcher A. Brothers is the founder and director of Freedom Village USA, North America's premier home for troubled teenagers. Known for his "matter-of-fact", "tell it like it is" style of preaching, Pastor Brothers hosts the daily Victory Today radio and television programs. Recognized as a leading authority on issues dealing with teenagers and their families, Dr. Brothers has authored a number of books and appeared as a frequent guest speaker on radio and television programs across the country.
Dr. Brothers was born in Carthage, NY and raised in nearby Henderson Harbor. As the son of a preacher, Dr. Brothers eventually answered God's call on his own life to preach. In the mid 1970s, Dr. Brothers began ministering at Gates Community Chapel in Rochester, NY. His church quickly blossomed, and was named one of America's fastest growing churches three different times.
The ministry at Gates Community Chapel brought Pastor Brothers face to face with the desperate needs of inner city youth. As a result, the church started a wildly successful YouthTime program that brought in hundreds of young people every week, challenging them and offering them hope in Christ.
A chance encounter with a 'street kid' nicknamed Squeaky solidified Pastor's burden and vision for helping young people. When witnessing to this homeless teenage prostitute, Pastor was challenged to be able to offer more than just words - he needed to have a place where these 'hopeless' young people could go to have a safe place to sleep and get three square meals a day while hearing God's message of hope.
His ministerial experiences, coupled with inspiration from the movie Boys Town, helped Pastor Brothers form the vision for Freedom Village. With the help of a few dedicated, like-minded members of his church, Pastor purchased an abandoned boarding school in Lakemont, NY, renovated it, and opened the doors to troubled teens who needed a second chance. In 1981, Freedom Village opened its doors to the first young person. Twenty five years later, Pastor continues to follow God's calling and has created a ministry of international scope.
Pastor Brothers has been instrumental in creating several outreaches and sister facilities throughout North America and around the world. He has helped start homes in Puerto Rico and South Korea, as well as establishing a ministry that serves a number of orphanages in Ukraine. Freedom Village has also launched one of the largest outreach ministries to the public schools and detention centers of America and Canada. Under the leadership of Pastor Brothers, the ministries of Freedom Village have brought the message of hope to millions of teens and their families.
Apart from the ministry of Freedom Village, Pastor Brothers has been very active in politics. As a founding member of the Religious Roundtable, later the Religious Right, Pastor has been a leading advocate for conservative causes. As a result of his advocacy work on behalf of issues affecting our children, Pastor was named NY Republican of the Year in 2002.
As a dedicated minister of the gospel and visionary leader, Pastor Brothers continues to stand at the front lines of the culture war. Determined to reach as many young people as possible, Dr. Brothers continues to expand the ministry and speak out against the evils of our day.
